A day in Bellagio from Como Rental

Bellagio sits at the tip of the promontory that splits Lake Como in two — about 30 minutes by car from our apartment in Blevio, or a longer, prettier ride by ferry from Como. It's the most photographed village on the lake for a reason: cobbled stairways, ochre façades, and two of the great lakeside villas.

Getting there from Blevio

  • · By car: 30–40 minutes along the SS583 lakeside road.
  • · By ferry from Como (Piazza Cavour): ~2h slow ferry, ~50 min fast hydrofoil. Buy at the dock.
  • · By car-and-ferry: drive to Cadenabbia (50 min), then the 15-minute car ferry across to Bellagio.

What to see

  • · Villa Melzi gardens — 19th-century gardens on the lakeshore, walkable from the ferry dock.
  • · Villa Serbelloni park — guided tour only, hilltop views.
  • · Punta Spartivento — the actual tip of the peninsula where the lake branches.
  • · Salita Serbelloni — the famous stepped alley climbing from the lake.

Where to eat

Skip the harbour-front tourist menus. Walk up into the old town for Salice Blu or Aperitivo et al., or sit lakeside at La Punta at the very tip for sunset.

Coming back to Blevio

Last fast ferries to Como leave in the early evening — check timetables on the day. If you've driven, the lakeside road back at dusk, with the lights of Como ahead, is one of the trip's quiet highlights.
